Jump (ジャンプ, Janpu) is a line of manga anthology magazines published in Japan by Shueisha. The most famous one being Weekly Shonen Jump (週刊少年ジャンプ, Shūkan Shōnen Janpu), with other magazines including Jump SQ, Saikyo Jump, Ultra Jump, Weekly Young Jump, Grand Jump & others.
"Weekly Shonen Jump" is the best-selling manga magazine and during its best era mid-1980s to the mid-1990s had its highest circulation of 6.53 million copies per week. As of 2018, it had a weekly circulation of 1.8 million copies.
Some of the best selling and influential manga originate from Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, including Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto and, recently, Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer.
History[]
The Weekly Shonen Jump launched in 1968 to compete with Weekly Shonen Magazine and Weekly Shonen Sunday. Originally it was bi-weekly magazine and was just called Shonen Jump, but after its 20th issue it became weekly.
Its Golden Age was during the mid-1980s and mid-1990s, where its circulation increased from 3 million to 6.53million. It was mostly due to the popular series Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk. Since 1996, the magazine circulation was on the decline, until it saw a small increase in 2007 due to One Piece's increased popularity, but soon continued to decline even more with the introduction of the digital era.
