Shaft (株式会社シャフト, Kabushiki-gaisha Shafuto) is a Japanese anime production company founded in 1975 by Hiroshi Wakao.

The anime production company Shaft was founded in September of 1975 by Hiroshi Wakao a former employee of Mushi Production. In the earliest days of the company's history they mainly handled clean up work for studios like Sunrise and Tatsunoko Production. It wasn't until 1987 that the studio released its first independent production, an OVA entitled Yume kara, Samenai.
